WooHoo Wahoo

WooHoo Wahoo

Well its been a while since I have posted on here since moving to the Cook Islands in Jan This year. Fishing has been a blast with regular catches of Yellowfin Tuna, Mahi Mahi and Wahoo not to mention the local stuff as well. With clear and calm seas on the forecast this morning I headed out to my favourite Wahoo hangout, the southwest Tip of Aitutaki. I was out the just on sun up and had the lures in the water no more than 5 minutes and Bang.... The real screamed and after a 20 minute battle on the 15 kg gear a 26.6kg Wahoo emerged. Launched at 6am back home by 730am. Not a bad mornings effort. Think i need a bigger esky....

No shark problems

After reading the tails of fishos hooking up to very good pelagics only to get them close to the boat and have the grey ghosts take them I'm interested to know if you have that problem in your neck of the woods.

 Yes as with everywhere alse

Yes as with everywhere alse in the world we also have problems with sharks in certin areas around the island. They seem to hang around the edges so once you are 1 km off shore they dont seem to bother you. The only problem with the wahoo here is they like to hang around the back of the breakers right where the sharks are.
